My experience on using word as a student has always been a good one. Word has helped me stay organized especially in college now that we are able to take notes on computers. It is a very smart tool that I believe all school systems should use. I do not prefer another software. I have been very used to using word throughout all of my school years. Pages is a little more unorganized for me in my personal opinion.
There are five ISTE standards for educators. the five standards are, students, teachers, educational leaders, technology coaches, and computer science educators. The standard that means the most to me is the student. The student standard is the most meaningful because as a teacher your job is for the learner to understand what you are teaching. The teacher has to be able to provide their knowledge with what you have learned as a student and information regarding a certain topic so they can relay it on. The learning is a cycle, once the teacher learns, the student can understand the topic being taught.
I do not necessarily agree with the title 'digital native' for todays youth. Although the children who were born when technology first came out are considered a 'digital native', the adults should be able to learn about technology just as easily if not easier than children who are not fully developed mentally yet compared to teachers who are supposed to be teaching children about these things. I believe that teachers should be the ones to teach the children everything there is to know about technology and how to apply it to your everyday life. I have seen some differences in the way I used technology compared to my teachers but they were always way more experienced than I would be. With my future students, I will be as up to date on technology as I can be because it is a huge part of our lives and apart of schools. I didn't have a computer in elementary school but the teachers had to adapt and learn how to educate with new technology around them.
I agree that Word is a great tool for staying organized, especially in college. It’s simple to use, and I also think more schools should use it. As for the ISTE standards, I agree that the student standard is the most important because the goal of teaching is to help students understand. I also don’t fully agree with the term "digital native." While younger people grow up with technology, I think adults, especially teachers, should be able to learn it just as easily. Teachers need to stay up to date with technology because it’s such a big part of education today.
